Why I Walk
I am a mom to a middle-school age son, a dog and two cats. I work full-time and take care of a home. No matter how busy things get, I always make the time to walk every day. Walking gives me the extra energy I need to take care of everyone and everything in my life.
On a typical Monday – Friday, I walk at least an hour a day:
15 minutes walking roundtrip from the parking lot to the office instead of taking the shuttle.
20 minutes walking at lunch.
25 minutes walking the dog with my son after work.
On the weekends it can be more if we schedule a hike or a long walk at the park or it can be less.
Walking at lunch gives me time to relax, think, meditate, problem-solve, dream, breath, feel the wind, feel the sun, stretch and move.
Walking my dog after work gives me time with my son – he shares a lot with me when there is nothing to do but talk and walk. Since walking is the highlight of my dog’s day, we three walk together almost every day – heat, cold, sun, rain, wind, snow. It’s hard to disappoint your dog!
I’ve been walking daily for 18 years now.
Walking has helped me get through some pretty big challenges like studying for exams, quitting smoking, losing the weight I gained after I quit smoking and keeping the weight off.
Walking also helps me get through life’s daily challenges like stress relief and problem solving.
Walking is probably my best habit – it is easy for me to find time to walk because I’ve made it a part of my day – every day.
I hope that Walk Today will inspire you to make walking a part of your day – every day.
I’d love to hear your story…. Leave a Comment to share how walking is making a difference in your life.
